Frequently Asked Questions

How does flax linen benefit my sleep?

  • Flax linen has anti-static qualities, which means that pillow cases made of flax linen barely cling to, or cause any friction against the hair/body. This prevents frizzy hair, reduces hair breakage, and allows for a smooth sleeping experience with unobstructed head, neck and shoulder movement.
  • Owing to flax linen's moisture wicking qualities, the fabric absorbs excess moisture (if any) from the body, and brings it to the surface allowing it to evaporate more easily.
  • Fabrics that are not moisture wicking (like cotton) may absorb sweat/moisture, but since they do not draw it away from the skin and onto the surface, the fabric ends up becoming heavy and sticking to us.
  • Flax linen doesn't get heavy/cling to us, and the absence of trapped moisture allows our skin to breathe better.
  • Flax linen as a fabric is dirt repellent and has anti-bacterial qualities, which means it suppresses the growth of pathogens and other bacteria unhealthy for the hair, skin and body. It is for this reason that for many years linen was used in making bandages. Sleeping in one of the cleanest fabrics known to exist does wonders to our hair and bodily hygeine.
  • Linen works wonders in all seasons. Due to its thermoregulatory properties, linen helps us mantain our body temperature by keeping us warm in the winters and cool in the summers.

Sleep in flax and experience the wonders it does to your sleep quality.

What is stonewashed linen?

The Process

  • Industrial Tumbling: Newly woven flax linen fabric is loaded into large industrial washing drums with water, mild detergents, and tumbling agents.
  • Pumice Stone Abrasion: In traditional manufacturing, porous volcanic pumice stones are tumbled alongside the fabric to physically abrade the surface fibers and release tight loom tension.
  • Cellulase Enzyme Treatments: Some Modern sustainable mills frequently use eco-friendly cellulase enzymes to selectively dissolve the rigid surface pectin binding the flax fibers together without compromising core structural strength.
  • Accelerated Softening: The process condenses years of natural washing and wear into a single controlled manufacturing cycle, transforming crisp raw flax into a supple cloth.

The Benefits

  • Instant Softness: Skips the stiff, rigid "break-in" period of raw linen, delivering a buttery, gentle hand-feel from the very first use.
  • Effortless, Relaxed Aesthetic: Features a subtle matte sheen and soft, organic rumples that look sophisticated without ever requiring an iron.
  • Pre-Shrunk Stability: Undergoes intensive pre-shrinking during production, ensuring the fabric maintains its dimensions through subsequent home laundering.
  • Fluid Drape: Loosening the weave tension allows the fabric to fall in softer, heavier folds that contour gracefully over furniture and the body.
  • Superior Breathability: Retains all natural flax properties—wicking away moisture, preventing bacterial growth, and keeping sleepers cool in warm weather while trapping subtle warmth in winter.
  • Continual Improvement: High-grade flax fibers maintain exceptional long-term durability, becoming softer and more pliable with every wash cycle.

How should I wash my flax linen pillowcases?

These cases can be machine washed in cold water, with very gentle cleaning agents (non-abrasive & bleach-free). We suggest line drying in shade. If using a dryer, keep the setting as LOW HEAT. If needed, iron them when still damp, on appropriate setting. Please click here to read the wash and care instruction carefully.
