The Process

• Industrial Tumbling: Newly woven flax linen fabric is loaded into large industrial washing drums with water, mild detergents, and tumbling agents.
• Pumice Stone Abrasion: In traditional manufacturing, porous volcanic pumice stones are tumbled alongside the fabric to physically abrade the surface fibers and release tight loom tension.
• Cellulase Enzyme Treatments: Some Modern sustainable mills frequently use eco-friendly cellulase enzymes to selectively dissolve the rigid surface pectin binding the flax fibers together without compromising core structural strength.
• Accelerated Softening: The process condenses years of natural washing and wear into a single controlled manufacturing cycle, transforming crisp raw flax into a supple cloth.
